I wrote this track initially as a journal entry. I was living in Melbourne at the time and it was a hot summers night - 40 degree heat and I couldn't sleep.
I got up, pacing the room and then picked up my journal and began to write about how I couldn't sleep.
I was also consumed with thoughts of moving to London and becoming an MC at that time too, my fantasies of being successful certainly a catalyst for keeping me up at night too. So I wrote about that as well.
A few months later, when I had moved to the UK and was signed to Full Cycle, Roni played me the beginnings of the beat that was to become Lyric On My Lip.
I opened my journal and started to play around with the structure of some of the sentences I had written, quickly formulating them into rhymes on the spot, adding bits here and there to pad out the structure and make more sense.
When I was ready I went into the booth and lay down the first take of the rap and the chorus.
That first take is what Roni kept and used on the final cut.
I still think I could have done it a whole lot better but the guys seemed obsessed with the first takes I did..earning me the nickname 'one take Tali'
